HINSDALE, Ill. – Marian Catholic jumped out to a double-digit lead in the first quarter and never looked back in a 66-37 win against Plainfield East in the day two consolation bracket of the 2024 Hinsdale Central Holiday Classic.

The Spartans made half of their field goals in the first quarter and the lead ballooned up to 20 in the second quarter thanks to a 22-0 run over the course of seven-and-a-half minutes. Zack Sharkey was the catalyst throughout as the guard tallied 15 points in the half. Plainfield East began to hit shots down the stretch to cut the deficit to 31-19 at halftime. Kobe Jordan paced the Bengals' effort with 10 points heading into the intermission.

Marian Catholic remained undeterred, making 54 percent of its shots and ran away with things thanks to another big 19-3 scoring run between the third and fourth quarters.

The Spartans (10-4 record) concluded the game shooting 44 percent from the field, 35 percent from three (6-17) and 80 percent at the charity stripe (12-15). Sharkey submitted a complete all-around effort with 26 points, nine rebounds, four assists and three steals. Delan Davis contributed 17 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals. Marian Catholic won the rebounding battle 37-26 and the turnover column 15-8.

The Bengals (4-8 record) compiled shooting marks of 33 percent from the field, 13 percent from beyond the arc (2-15) and 47 percent at the free throw line (7-15). Jordan ended with 10 points and Joshua Stone added eight points.

Marian Catholic's next opponent will be the winner of Morgan Park/Morton in tomorrow’s consolation semifinal at 2:00 p.m. Plainfield East will face off with the loser of Morgan Park/Morton in a consolation contest at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
