HINSDALE, Ill. – After a tight first quarter, Lane Tech outscored St. Rita by 30 points the final three quarters while cruising to a 67-34 victory in the opening round of the 2024 Hinsdale Central Holiday Classic.

Lane Tech (6-6) built an opening 11-8 lead after the opening quarter before pulling away the rest of the away. Lane Tech outscored St. Rita (2-9) 16-4 in the second quarter and 24-12 in the third before sealing the game with a 33-point win.

Zach Mazanowski and Matt Szafoni both totaled 13 points and seven rebounds apiece to pace Lane Tech in the win. Luka Pinto added 10 points for the balanced Lane Tech offensive attack.

Lane Tech shot 47.4 percent (27-of-57) from the floor, including 27.8 percent (5-of-18) from beyond the arc. The Champions dominated inside, outrebounding the Mustangs 39-20 and outscoring the Mustangs 40-16 in the paint.

Eze Nwagwu led St. Rita in the loss with 10 points. Steven Armbruster came off the bench to score six.

Lane Tech will face the winner of the Wheaton Academy/Rockford Auburn game in tomorrow’s quarterfinal at 5:15 p.m. St. Rita will take on the loser of the Wheaton Academy/Rockford Auburn contest in tomorrow’s quarterfinal starting at 11:00 a.m.
