HINSDALE, Ill. – Schaumburg held off a late rally by Rockford Auburn to prevail by a 52-47 score at the 2024 Hinsdale Central Holiday Classic on Monday afternoon.

Schaumburg led 24-22 at halftime as both teams were searching for their offensive rhythm. The two sides shot a combined 33 percent from the field and 12 percent from three. Kaidan Dozie had nine points at the break for Rockford Auburn, while Jordan Tunis posted seven points for Schaumburg.

The Saxons opened up an 11-point lead early in the fourth quarter with better offensive execution. But the Knights were undeterred and pulled back to within three points several times in the final minutes. Amir Danforth's layup brought his team to within 50-47 with 40 seconds remaining. However, Rockford Auburn missed a potential tying three from the corner and Schaumburg converted a pair of free throws in the final moments to secure the victory.

The Saxons (9-5 record) made 39 percent of their field goals, 13 percent of their three-pointers (2-15) and 80 percent of their free throws (16-20). Tunis put up 16 points and four rebounds, while Zion Young was able to hold sway in the paint with 14 points and eight rebounds. Schaumburg committed 17 total turnovers.

The Knights (8-7 record) converted 35 percent from the field, including 21 percent from long range (4-19) and 87 percent from the charity stripe (7-8). Danforth posted a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds - he was also named to the All-Tournament Team at the end of the contest. Dozie led all scorers, netting 21 points to go with eight rebounds, three steals and three assists.
