HINSDALE, Ill. – St. Charles East led wire-to-wire in a 67-42 victory over Plainfield East on the final day of the 2024 Hinsdale Central Holiday Classic. With a 17-12 lead in hand late in the first quarter, the Saints proceeded to go on a huge 22-2 run over the next eight minutes of game time. By the time halftime rolled around, St. Charles East was up 41-16. Marco Klebosits paced the effort with nine points and 10 rebounds, while Andrew Wolfsmith added eight points. Plainfield East struggled offensively at 24 percent shooting from the field. The Bengals committed more turnovers (9) than made field goals (6) in the half. St. Charles East hit a three-pointer at the third-quarter buzzer to go up 64-30, and running clock took over for the rest of the fourth quarter. The Saints (7-6 record) made 42 percent of their field goals, 30 percent of their threes (7-23) and 95 percent of their free throws (18-19). St. Charles East controlled the boards 37-25. Klebosits compiled a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Wolfsmith contributed 11 points and Gavin Szerlong scored a game-high 14 points. Plainfield East Bengals (5-9 record) was held to 33 percent shooting on field goals, including 20 percent on three-pointers (3-15) and 50 percent from the charity stripe (9-18). |
