HINSDALE, Ill. – Brother Rice led for nearly 30 minutes of play to hold off Lane Tech 49-46 and advance to the championship game of the 2024 Hinsdale Central Holiday Classic.

Brother Rice (13-0) opened the contest on a 7-2 run and built an 18-13 lead after one quarter. The Crusaders extended their lead to 27-19 at the half. Brother Rice led by as many as nine points in the third quarter before Lane Tech (7-7) responded with a run to close to within four points. The Crusaders held of the charge from the Champions to come away with the three-point win.

KJ Morris and Caden Workman led Brother Rice’s offense, finishing with 14 points apiece. Morris shot 7-of-12 from the floor while Workman finished the night shooting 6-of-8. Jack Weigus added a double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds. John Mikrut added five assists for the Crusaders.

Brother Rice shot 42.9 percent (21-of-49) from the floor and overcame a 42-29 rebounding advantage for Lane Tech. The Champions shot 355.2 percent (19-of-54) from the floor and used 17 offensive rebounds to score 19 second chance points.

Lane Tech was led by Dalton Scantlebury’s double-double of 19 points and 14 rebounds. Zach Mazanowski added eight points and 10 rebounds while Luka Pinto came off the bench to score nine.

Brother Rice will face the winner of the Hinsdale Central/Niles North contest in Monday’s Championship game at 8:30 p.m. Lane Tech will face the loser of the Hinsdale Central/Niles North game in Monday’s third-place game at 7:00 p.m.
