GAME 22 -- Burlington Central 49, Schaumburg 47

HINSDALE, Ill. – Burlington Central’s Jacob Johnson hit a jumper in the paint with 21 seconds remaining to break a tie and lead the Rockets to a 49-47 victory over Schaumburg and into the fifth-place game of the 2024 Hinsdale Central Holiday Classic.

The tightly-contested contest featured four ties and four lead changes with neither team leading by more than six points. Schaumburg (8-5) led 22-19 at the half and carried a one-point lead into the fourth quarter.

Burlington Central (9-4) moved in front early in the fourth quarter and held a 47-44 lead with less than a minute to play. Schaumburg’s Tony Horton hit a game-tying three-pointer with 47 seconds remaining, but Johnson nailed his jumper in the paint just 26 seconds later to lift Burlington Central to the win.

Johnson and Caden West scored 12 points apiece to lead the Rockets. Lucas Kerr added 10 points while Patrick Shell added nine points and seven rebounds. Patrick Magan finished with six points for the Rockets.

Burlington Central shot 45.9 percent (17-of-37) from the field, including 42.9 percent (6-of-14) from downtown. Schaumburg finished the contest shooting 39.6 percent (19-of-48) from the floor and 33.3 percent (5-of-15) from three-point distance.

Jordan Tunis led Schaumburg in the loss with 13 points. Cam Anderson added 12 points while Zion Young and Horton tallied eight points apiece.

Burlington Central will take on Maine South in Monday’s fifth-place game at 5:15 p.m. Schaumburg will battle Rockford Auburn on Monday at 2:00 p.m.
