GAME 2 -- Brother Rice 67, St. Charles East 44

HINSDALE, Ill. – Jack Weigus and Marcos Gonzales combined to score 42 points to lead Brother Rice to a 67-44 victory over St. Charles East in the opening round of the 2024 Hinsdale Central Holiday Classic.

Brother Rice (11-0) turned a one-point lead after one quarter (16-15) into an 11-point halftime cushion (33-22) after the Crusaders outscored St. Charles East 17-7 in the second quarter. The  Crusaders pulled away in the second half and cruised to the 67-44 victory.

Weigus led Brother Rice with 22 points, shooting 8-of-15 from the floor, including 6-of-12 from three-point range. Gonzales added 22 points, hitting on 9-of-17 attempts and adding seven rebounds. KJ Morris, Max Justic and Caden Workman all scored seven points each for the Crusaders.

Brother Rice shot 46.7 percent (28-of-60) from the floor, including 36.4 percent (8-of-22) from downtown. St. Charles East (5-5) shot 36.7 percent (18-of-49) from the floor, but struggled from downtown, hitting just 2-of-20 (10.0 percent).

St. Charles East was led by Bradley Monkemeyer’s 13 points. Sam Tisch added nine points and six rebounds while Marco Klebosits spulled down seven rebounds.

Brother Rice will face Maine South in tomorrow’s quarterfinal at 3:45 p.m. St. Charles East will take on Oswego East in the consolation bracket tomorrow at 9:30 am.
