HINSDALE, Ill. – Wheaton Academy's Hayden Schroeder nearly set a tournament scoring record as the Warriors put the game away early with a dominating 69-36 victory over St. Rita in the day two consolation bracket of the 2024 Hinsdale Central Holiday Classic.

The first half was the Schroeder show. The Wheaton Academy center was a blistering 13-for-15 on field goals en route to 28 points in 15 minutes of play. St. Rita could not contain the big man, who threw down three dunks in the half and even stepped outside to drain a pair of three pointers. The Warriors' dominance in the paint was underscored by a rebounding disparity of 21-7 at the break.

A second-quarter blitz put Wheaton Academy up for good with a monster 27-2 run. By halftime, the lead stood at 44-18.

Schroeder continued his torrid stretch in the third quarter and concluded with an eye-popping 41 points in only 21 minutes of playing time. He shot 19 of 22 from the field, hit a trio of three-pointers and grabbed 11 rebounds for a double-double. Running clock took over in the fourth quarter as the Warriors cruised the rest of the way.

Wheaton Academy (9-2 record) posted shooting percentages of 54 percent from the field, 44 percent from beyond the arc (7-16) and 25 percent at the free throw line (2-8). The rebounding battle went definitively to the Warriors with a 37-19 advantage. Tyler Smith, Jackson Snider and Charlie Coniaris tallied seven points apiece.

The Mustangs (2-10 record) were held to 31 percent shooting on field goals, including 25 percent on threes (5-20) while making 75 percent of their free throws (9-12). Eze Nwagwu led the team with 11 points.

Wheaton Academy will take on Oswego East in Saturday’s consolation matchup at 12:30 p.m. St. Rita will play St. Charles East in a 9:30 a.m. consolation game tomorrow.
