HINSDALE, Ill. – Matthew Steinberg and Jake Greenberg scored 14 points apiece to lead St. Charles East past Morton 62-44 in a consolation game of the 2023 Hinsdale Central Holiday Classic. St. Charles East (4-12) took a 14-11 lead after the opening quarter and never looked back. The Saints extended their lead to 29-17 at the half and led 46-30 after three quarters before pulling away for the 18-point victory. The Saints shot 37.3 percent (22-of-590) from the floor and turned 18 offensive rebounds into 15 second-chance points. The Saints dominated on the glass, outrebounding Morton 50-30. Steinberg totaled 14 points and a team-leading nine rebounds while Greenspan finished with 14 points and five boards. Andrew Wolfsmith chipped in with 12 points and eight rebounds. Sam Tisch finished with nine points and six rebounds. Morton (3-10) shot 30.9 percent from the field, hitting 17-of-55 attempts. Twon Jones paced the Mustangs in the loss with 15 points. Michale Barnes added six points and a game-high 12 rebounds while Donovan Johnson scored eight points. |
