HINSDALE, Ill. – Rockford Auburn secured its spot in the fifth-place game of the 2023 Hinsdale Central Holiday Classic by upending Niles North 82-57. Niles North (11-3) led for the first five minutes of action, but Rockford Auburn closed the first quarter with a 10-3 run to lead 20-16 after one quarter. The Knights doubled up the Vikings 28-14 in the second quarter to lead 48-30 at the half. Rockford Auburn led by as many as 28 points in the fourth quarter before cruising to the 25-point win. Rockford Auburn shot 54.0 percent (34-of-63) from the floor, including 5r2.0 percent (13-of-25) from downtown. Amir Danforth and Rakim Chaney paced the Knights with 17 points apiece in the win. Chaney flirted with a triple-double, finishing with seven rebounds and eight assists. Terry Horton added 16 points while hitting four three-pointers. Keon Leach added 11 points and five rebounds in the win. Niles North shot just 37.3 percent from the field, hitting 22-of-59 shots. Yaris Irby led the Vikings in the loss with 25 points while Reid Olson added 10 points Hunter Gawron and Kaidan Chatham added seven points apiece for Niles North. Rockford Auburn will face the winner of the Hinsdale Central/Maine South game in tomorrow’s fifth-place game at 3:45 p.m. Niles North will face the loser of the Hinsdale Central/Maine South game tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. |
