2022 GAME THREE RECAP: MORGAN PARK 49, RICHARDS 48

HINSDALE, Ill. –Randy Walls scored a putback lay-up at the buzzer to lift Morgan Park past Richards 49-48 and into the quarterfinals of the 2022 Hinsdale Central Holiday Classic.

Morgan Park (5-8) led for over 27 minutes of action, building a 15-8 lead after one quarter and leading 22-15 at the half. The Mustangs carried a 35-29 lead into the fourth quarter before fighting off a Richards (5-8) rally.

Trailing by five with 5:30 left, Richards used a 9-0 run over the next 2:30 to take a four-point lead. Down three with just over a minute to play, Wells hit a lay-up to bring Morgan Park to within one. After a missed three pointer by Richards, Morgan Park had the ball at halfcourt with 3.3 seconds remaining. Wells missed a lay-up, but tipped home his own miss at the buzzer to lead the Mustangs to the one-point win.

Morgan Park shot 33.3 percent (19-of-57) from the floor, but just 5.9 percent (1-of-17) from downtown. Kyle Hudson-Duff led Morgan Park with 12 points while Leon Cooks finished with nine points and 12 rebounds. Dwayne Halburton added eight points while Orlando James finished with six points, six rebounds and four assists.

Richards shot 38.3 percent (18-of-47) in the loss, converting on 3-of-16 attempts (18.8 percent) from long distance. Camren King came off the bench to pace Richards with 18 points. La’Terion Colbert added 11 points and five rebounds while Eddie Hrebic finished with eight points. Donnie Burton tallied nine rebounds in the loss.
