2022 GAME 30 RECAP: STEVENSON 56, HOMEWOOD-FLOSSMOOR 55 (5th Place) HINSDALE, Ill. – Stevenson erased an eight-point deficit in the final two minutes of action to defat Homewood-Flossmoor 56-55 and take home the fifth-place trophy at the 2022 Hinsdale Central Holiday Classic. Homewood-Flossmoor (10-6) led 15-11 after the first quarter and built a 25-20 lead at the half. The Vikings stretched their lead to 10 points (43-33) entering the fourth quarter. Trailing by eight with less than two minutes to play Brandon Sorokin drilled a 3-pointer for Stevenson (11-2). Christian Uremovich followed with a tip-in with less than a minute to play to cut the deficit down to three points. After an H-F miss, Michael Moloney hit a lay-up with 34 seconds left. The Spartans trailed by three with 20 seconds left but Aidan Bardic hit a lay-up with 11 seconds left to cut the lead back to one. After Homewood-Flossmoor missed a free throw, Bardic was fouled with 1.5 seconds left. He hit both free throws to give the Patriots the win. Stevenson shot 43.1 percent (22-of-51) from the floor, including 21.1 percent (4-of-19 from downtown. Uremovich led the Patriots with 16 points and six rebounds while being named to the all-tournament team. Bardic added 10 points while Brandon Sorokin added eight points. David Sulnius added seven points and a team-high eight rebounds. Homewood-Flossmoor finished the game shooting 43.4 percent (23-of-53) from the floor, including 30.8 percent (4-of-13) from downtown. All-Tournament pick Carson Brownfield led the way with 19 points in the loss. Vincent Davis added 13 points and nine boards while Jahill Burchette added 10 points. |
