2022 GAME EIGHT RECAP: HOMEWOOD-FLOSSMOOR 83, ST. CHARLES EAST 58

HINSDALE, Ill. – Homewood-Flossmoor's blistering offensive attack could not be contained by St. Charles East, as the Vikings rolled to an 83-58 triumph in game eight of the 2022 Hinsdale Central Holiday Classic.

The Vikings move on to the quarterfinals with a 7-4 record. The Saints fell to 5-6 on the season.

H-F came out hot on the offensive end with 20 points in the first quarter on 64 percent shooting. St. Charles East was able to keep up, however, with 19 points of its own to stay within one point. In the second quarter, the Vikings kept converting over half their shots while the Saints stumbled to 3-for-13 shooting from the field. That disparity in conversion rate allowed H-F to expand its lead to 37-24. By the time halftime rolled around, Homewood-Flossmoor led 37-28. Carson Brownfield paced the first-half scoring effort with 11.

In the third quarter, the Viking guards were picking the pockets of St. Charles East and getting layups the other way. Point guard Jayden Tyler swiped the ball and finished left handed at the rim to make it 45-34. Another H-F steal on the next possession forced a timeout call by the Saints. Tyler provided one of the big energy plays of the game by throwing down a dunk, then nailed a three through contact on the next possession to make it 56-41.

H-F continued to blow through St. Charles East with transition drives and kick-out threes during the fourth quarter. The Vikings rolled up 27 points in the final frame to account for the 83-58 final score. 

In the final box score, Homewood-Flossmoor shot a blistering 59.6 percent from the field and 50.0 percent from three-point range (9-18). Brownfield led the way with 23 points and eight rebounds. Tyler contributed 17 points, six assists and three steals. Dominic Pangallo posted 12 points off the bench.

St. Charles East was held to 38.3 percent shooting overall and 29.6 percent on threes (8-27). The Saints turned the ball over 20 times. Edward Herrera finished with 15 points and Jacki Borri added 13 points and six rebounds.

Homewood-Flossmoor will face Hinsdale Central in Tuesday's quarterfinal at 8:30 p.m. St. Charles East will play Oak Forest in Tuesday's consolation bracket at 2:00 p.m.
