2022 GAME 32 RECAP: HINSDALE CENTRAL 54, OSWEGO EAST 41 (Championship)

HINSDALE, Ill. - Hinsdale Central defeated Oswego East 54-41 to capture the championship of the 2022 Hinsdale Central Holiday Classic. The victory marked the host Red Devils’ first-ever tournament title since they began hosting the tournament in 2015.

Hinsdale Central (12-3) built a 13-8 lead after the opening quarter and pushed their lead up to 10 (28-18) at the half. With leading scorer Ben Oosterbaan in early foul trouble, Emerson Eck sparked Hinsdale Central’s offense, connecting on three 3-pointers in the opening half. Hinsdale Central built its lead up to 15 points in the third quarter as Eck splashed home his fifth 3-pointer of the game. Oswego East (13-3) came no closer than an 11-point deficit in the fourth quarter as Hinsdale Central cruised to the title.

Eck shot his way onto the all-tournament team, finishing with a game-high 16 points. Oosterban, who was named tournament MVP battled through foul trouble to finish with 11 points and five rebounds. Billy Cernugel came off the bench to finish with 11 points and seven rebounds. Chase Collignon, a third Red Devil to earn all-tournament honors, finished with six points and a team-high eight rebounds. Evan Phillips scored nine for Hinsdale Central .

The Red Devils shot 51.4 percent (19-of-37) from the floor, including 58.3 percent (7-of-12) from downtown. They also controlled the glass, outrebounding Oswego East 34-23.

Oswego East shot just 36.7 percent (18-of-49) from the floor and hit only 1-of-13 (7.7 percent) attempts from 3-point distance. All-tournament selection Mekhi Lowery led the Wolfpack with 14 points and nine rebounds. Bryce Shoto, a second all-tournament pick for Oswego East, added five points while Jehvion Starwood scored eight points.
