2022 GAME 29 RECAP: MAINE SOUTH 30, LINCOLN-WAY CENTRAL 27 (Consolation Championship)

HINSDALE, Ill. – Maine South captured the consolation championship of the 2022 Hinsdale Central Holiday Classic by edging Lincoln-Way Central 30-27 in a low-scoring game.

Both teams struggled to score in the opening half. Lincoln-Way Central (4-9) led 9-2 after the first quarter, but Maine South (6-8) outscored Lincoln-Way Central 4-0 in the second quarter to pull to within three points at halftime.

The Hawks got rolling in the third, outscoring the Knights 18-10 to build a 24-19 lead. Lincoln-Way Central pulled to within one with 20 seconds remaining, but a pair of free throws sealed the win for the Hawks.

Kaden Karstens paced Maine South with 15 points and seven rebounds. Ryan Leyden added 10 rebounds for the Hawks. Maine South shot 26.3 percent (10-of-38) from the floor and just 9.1 percent (2-of-22) from 3-point distance.

Jack Barett led Lincoln-Way Central with 12 points. Will Gehrke came off the bench to grab 11 rebounds. The Knights shot just 18.6 percent (8-of-43) from the floor and finished 0-for-14 from 3-point distance.
