2021 GAME EIGHT RECAP: DEPAUL PREP vs. GLENBARD EAST HINSDALE, Ill. – DePaul Prep locked down defensively and stifled Glenbard East all game to win handily 50-20 in game eight of the 2021 Hinsdale Central Holiday Classic. A quiet first quarter saw DePaul Prep move ahead 8-4. The second quarter featured a shutout performance by the Rams defensively. Glenbard East missed all six of its field goal attempts in the quarter as DePaul Prep made 55.6 percent of its field goals. An 11-0 surge put DePaul Prep firmly in control 19-4 at halftime. Center Dylan Arnett typified DePaul Prep's significant advantage in height and length. He converted all six of his field goal attempts in the third quarter to put up 12 points. The paint is where DePaul Prep was most dangerous, outscoring Glenbard East 36-4 in the lane over the course of the game. The swarming defense also picked off Glenbard East passes with regularity and forced difficult shots from the perimeter. A 14-3 run by DePaul prep put the contest out of reach in the third quarter and the Rams cruised from there to the finish. In the final box score, DePaul Prep made half of its field goal attempts, 33.3 percent of its three-pointers (3-9) and 37.5 percent of its free throws (3-8). The rebounding battle was won significantly by DePaul Prep 29-17, including 13-5 on the offensive boards. The Rams forced 20 turnovers and scored 26 points off them. Arnett submitted 18 points, five rebounds and four blocks. McElroy concluded with 10 points and nine rebounds. Glenbard East shot 28 percent from the field, 20 percent from three-point range (2-10) and 57.1 percent from the free throw line (4-7). Trevor Rehnstrom led the team with seven points. DePaul Prep (10-0 record) will face Hinsdale Central in Thursday’s quarterfinal at 8:30 p.m. Glenbard East (3-8 record) will next play St. Charles East in the consolation bracket on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. |
