2021 GAME FOUR RECAP: SAINT RITA vs. LINCOLN-WAY CENTRAL HINSDALE, Ill. – A roaring start by Saint Rita led to a 63-35 rout of Lincoln-Way Central in game four of the 2021 Hinsdale Central Holiday Classic. The Mustangs scored 19 of the opening 21 points in the game and never looked back. They hit five three-pointers in the quarter, including three by Jaedin Reyna. Meanwhile, the Knights only made 1 of 10 field goals. The second quarter was more of the same as the margin expanded to 31-6 three minutes in. Lincoln-Way Central was able to string together some shots as the half wore on, but couldn't cut into the deficit. The halftime score stood at 39-14. Saint Rita shot a blazing 15-for-24 overall in the first half (62.5 percent). Reyna, Melvin Bell and Kaiden Space accounted for 11, 10 and 10 points, respectively. The second half played out pretty evenly with the Mustangs only adding three points to their total lead. They weren't threatened the rest of the way, as the lead never dropped below 24 points. In the final stats, Saint Rita shot 52.2 percent on field goals, 47.6 percent on three-pointers (10-21) and 71.4 percent on free throws (5-7). The Mustangs led the rebounding battle 30-24 and only allowed six points in the paint. Reyna finished with 18 points, followed closely by Ball with 17 points and seven rebounds. Lincoln-Way Central only converted 27.5 percent of its field goals and 25 percent of its threes (5-20). The Knights made 8 of 11 at the line (72.7 percent). Jack Vegter posted team highs of 11 points and five rebounds. Saint Rita (9-3 record) will face Homewood-Flossmoor in Thursday’s quarterfinal at 5:15 p.m. Lincoln-Way Central (5-5 record) will next play Willowbrook in the consolation bracket on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. |
