2021 GAME THIRTY RECAP: ST. RITA vs. MARIAN CATHOLIC (5TH PLACE GAME) HINSDALE, Ill. - In the first placement game of the tournament, the fans in attendance were treated to a good old fashioned slugfest with St. Rita and Marian Catholic battling it out on the hardwood. In step with one another late in the game, it was Jaedin Reyna’s coast-to-coast effort with 2.5 seconds remaining that lifted the Mustangs to victory, 42-41.The Spartans drew first blood, opening a four-point lead in the first quarter, just over three minutes into the game. That would be their largest lead of the night. St. Rita wouldn’t create much of a lead for themselves either, only holding a four-point lead themselves in the third quarter. What proved to be the difference on Tuesday night was the second quarter, in which St. Rita forced eight missed shots by Marian Catholic, resulting in an 8-3 scoring advantage, and a three-point lead after two quarters of play. The Mustangs dominated the glass with a 26-15 rebounding advantage, but struggled to hold onto possession, committing 20 turnovers, which the Spartans converted into 14 points. St. Rita’s James Brown and Marian Catholic’s Jeremiah Jones were named to the Joe Spagnolo All-Tournament Team and St. Rita took home the 5th place trophy.
