2021 GAME EIGHTEEN RECAP: OAK FOREST vs. WILLOWBROOK

Box Score

HINSDALE, Ill. - Tuesday’s opener of the Hinsdale Central Holiday Classic saw one of, if not the best performances to date as Robbie Avila went off for 31 points, 16 rebounds and nine blocks, setting tournament bests in each of those statistical categories. Avila’s nine rebounds broke the all-time tournament record as Oak Forest improved to 11-1 with a 66-58 win over Willowbrook (4-8).

The Bengals jumped out to an early lead and held the advantage for nearly the entire game. Their advantage was aided by 57 percent shooting from the floor, including an 85 percent mark in the fourth quarter. Over 80 percent of Oak Forest’s points came in the paint, thanks largely in part to the post play of Avila. All 20 of Fred Robinson’s points came in the paint as well.

For as dominant as the Bengals were from inside the arc, the Warriors tried to make up for it from behind the arc, attempting 29 3-pointers. Unfortunately for Willowbrook, the distance shooting wasn’t dialed in, finishing 7-of-29. The Warriors managed to force 14 turnovers, but could only convert those into 11 points.

Oak Forest advances to face the winner of Richards and Glenbard East, while Willowbrook will face the loser.
