2019 GAME SIX RECAP: MARIAN CATHOLIC XX, T.F. South XX HINSDALE, Ill. – Marian Catholic held off a fourth quarter surge from T.F. South to score a 57-54 win in the opening round of the 2019 Hinsdale Central Holiday Classic. Marian Catholic (9-2) built a 17-11 lead after one quarter but T.F. South (5-6) trimmed the deficit down to just one point (23-22) at halftime. Leading by three with two minutes left in the third quarter, Marian Catholic scored the next eight points to build a 43-32 lead after three quarters of play. The Spartans extended their lead to 13 points with six minutes remaining before T.F. South mounted a rally. The Rebels used a 17-5 run over the next 5:30 to close to within a point at 55-54 with just five seconds remaining. Aaron Ulis hit a pair of free throws in the final seconds to give Marian Catholic the three-point victory. Marian Catholic shot 53.8 percent (21-of-39) from the floor, including 50.0 percent (5-of-10) from beyond the arc. T.F. South finished the contest shooting 40.4 percent (21-of-52) from the field, but only 25.0 percent (6-of-24) from three-point range. Joe Green paced Marian Catholic in the win, finishing with 17 points while shooting 5-of-7. Ulis added 14 points, five rebounds and five assists while Yemi Elutilo scored 13 for the Spartans. Isaiah Lewis led T.F. South with a game-high 18 points while also totaling eight boards and three assists. Ahkil Lindsey added 13 points while Elijah Watson scored 11. Marian Catholic will face Saint Rita in Thursday’s quarterfinal scheduled for 7:00 p.m. T.F. South will clash with Willowbrook in Thursday’s consolation bracket at 12:30 p.m. |
