2019 GAME 26: LINCOLN-WAY CENTRAL 48, WILLOWBROOK 44 HINSDALE, Ill. – Lincoln-Way Central closed out its appearance at the 2019 Hinsdale Central Holiday Classic by defeating Willowbrook 48-44 in a consolation game. Lincoln-Way Central (7-5) broke a 4-4 tie in the opening quarter with a 9-3 run to take a 13-7 lead after one. The Knights pushed their lead up to nine points (26-17) at the half. Lincoln-Way Central led by as many as 14 points in the third quarter before Willowbrook (6-7) mounted a comeback. Trailing by 13 with 7:35 remaining, the Warriors chipped the lead down to just three points due to a 12-2 run. The Willowbrook closed to within a point with 1:22 remaining and had a chance to take a lead, but missed a pair of shots. Sean Curran hit a pair of free throws to extend Lincoln-Way’s lead to three points with 17 seconds. The Warriors missed a three-pointer in the closing seconds and Lincoln-Way Central hit a free throw to close out the game at 48-44. Lincoln-Way Central shot 42.5 percent (17-of-40) from the floor, including 36.0 percent (9-of-25) from beyond the arc. Nicklaus Tingley led the way with 16 points while Sean Curran totaled 12 points and six assists. James Ogrodnik finished with 14 rebounds and six boards. Willowbrook outscored the Knights 30-12 in the paint, but the Warriors struggled with their shooting, hitting just 27.6 percent (16-of-58) from the floor and making only 1-of-19 attempts (5.3 percent) from three-point distance. Sean Paige led Willowbrook in the loss with 17 points and six rebounds. Everett Stubblefield added 12 points and five steals for Willowbrook. Sam Tumilty added seven points and set a single-game tournament record with 10 steals. |
