2019 GAME ONE RECAP: Homewood-Flossmoor 51, Maine South 34

HINSDALE, Ill. – Homewood-Flossmoor outscored Maine South 28-10 in the second half to score a 51-34 win in the opening game of the 2019 Hinsdale Central Holiday Classic.

Maine South (4-5) jumped out to an early lead, building an 11-3 cushion just 3:30 into the contest. The Hawks led 16-12 after one quarter. Homewood-Flossmoor took its first lead of the game midway through the second quarter after a Kenton Pryor layup, but Maine South went back in front just before the half on a Sean Gallery layup. The Hawks carried a 24-23 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Maine South extended its lead to four-points midway through the third quarter, but H-F finished the quarter on a 12-2 run to open up a 37-31 lead after 24 minutes.  Leading by six with 5:30 remaining, H-F finished the contest on 12-1 run to score the 17-point win.

H-F shot 47.4 percent (18-of-38) from the floor in the win. The Vikings were solid from the free throw line, hitting 12-of-16 attempts (75.0 percent). RJ Ogom led the Vikings in the win, finishing with a game-high 17 points to go along with six rebounds. Ogom shot 7-of-11 from the floor. Josiah Palmer added 15 points and hit three three-pointers for H-F. Joel Watts added nine points for the Vikings.

Maine South shot 48.3 percent (14-of-29) from the field, including 45.5 percent (5-of-11) from downtown. Casey Clark led the Hawks in the loss with 14 points while Marko Anderson scored seven.

Homewood-Flossmoor will face the winner of the St. Charles East/Lincoln-Way Central matchup in Thursday’s quarterfinal at 3:45 p.m. Maine South will face the loser of the St. Charles East/Lincoln-Way Central contest in Thursday’s consolation bracket at 9:30 a.m.
