2018 GAME THREE RECAP: St. Charles East 51, Stevenson 48 HINSDALE, Ill. – Mark Musial hit the game-winning three-pointer with 20 seconds remaining to lift St. Charles East to a 51-48 win over Stevenson in the opening round of the 2018 Hinsdale Central Holiday Classic. St. Charles East (8-5) led for over 30 minutes of action, but needed the Musial triple to move on to the next round. The Saints built a 19-15 lead after the first quarter and carried a 33-21 lead into the locker room at halftime. Stevenson cut the deficit in half after three quarters, trailing 44-38 after 24 minutes. St. Charles East led by eight points early in the fourth quarter, but a 10-2 run from Stevenson tied the game at 48-all on a Robert Holmes jumper in the paint with less than a minute to play. Musial delivered the game-winning three-pointer from the corner on St. Charles East’s next possession. Stevenson’s game-tying three-point attempt was offline in the closing seconds. St. Charles East shot 50 percent (21-of-42) from the floor, including 31.6 percent (6-of-19) from three-point distance. Musial led the way for the Saints with 15 points while Nate Ortiz scored 14 and Cody Mitchell finished with 12. Ortiz added five assists and five rebounds in the win. Stevenson shot 42.6 percent (20-of-47) from the floor and outscored St. Charles East 30-20 in the paint. Matt Kaznikov paced the Patriots with 13 points and eight rebounds. Robert Holmes and Evan Ambrose tallied 10 points apiece in the loss. St. Charles East moved into the quarterfinals and will await the winner of the Urban Prep Englewood/DePaul Prep game Stevenson will face the loser of the Urban Prep Englewood/DePaul Prep game in the consolation bracket at 11:00 a.m. tomorrow. |
