2018 GAME 31 RECAP: Oswego East 58, DePaul Prep 55 (2OT) (Third-Place) HINSDALE, Ill. – Oswego East took home the third-place trophy from the 2018 Hinsdale Central Holiday Classic by outlasting DePaul Prep 58-55 in double overtime. DePaul (11-3) led by as many as 12 points in the opening half and the Rams led 27-21 at the half, but Oswego East (11-2) heated up in the second half. The Wolves outscored the Rams 16-9 in the third quarter to take a 37-36 lead into the fourth. The two teams traded buckets and leads early in the fourth. A three-pointer from Tyler Johnson put the Rams up 48-46 with less than two minutes to play, but Demari Grant tied the game with a layup with less than minute to play. DePaul had a chance to win in regulation, but a potential game-winning shot was offline. Both teams managed one bucket in the first OT and Oswego East’s three-pointer at the buzzer was too strong sending the game to a second overtime. Oswego broke a 52-52 tie in the second OT by scoring five straight points. The Rams cut the lead down to two, but a RayJ Dennis free throw helped seal the win for the Wolves. Both teams shot 39.3 percent (22-of-56) from the floor. DePaul Prep finished 8-of-23 (34.8 percent) from three-point range while Oswego East hit 10-of-14 (71.4 percent) from the foul line. Oswego East outscored DePaul Prep 30-18 in the paint. Perry Cowan and Lance Mosley earned all-tournament honors for DePaul. Cowan led the way with 16 points while Mosley finished with 11 and four assists. Johnson added 14 points and four assists while Brian Matthews collected 10 rebounds. |
