2018 GAME 12 RECAP: Hinsdale Central 53, Maine South 46 HINSDALE, Ill. – Hinsdale Central opened with a 9-2 run and never trailed, holding off Maine South for a 53-46 win and a spot in the consolation semifinals of the 2018 Hinsdale Central Holiday Classic. Hinsdale Central (3-7) opened quickly, grabbing a 9-2 lead to start the game and carrying a 12-4 lead into the second quarter. Maine South (8-5) cut the deficit down to two early in the second quarter, but the Red Devils led 20-13 at the half. Hinsdale Central built the lead up to 10 points (37-27) after the third quarter, but Maine South responded in the fourth, opening with an 11-2 run to close to within a point with five minutes left to play. A three from Sam Hoiberg pushed the Red Devils’ lead back to four. A layup from Matthew Rush and a pair of free throws from Charlie Lyne reestablished an eight-point lead for Hinsdale Central. Maine South came as close as three points with two minutes left but came no closer as Hinsdale Central moved on. Hinsdale Central shot 56.3 percent (18-of-32) from the floor, including 41.7 percent (5-of-12) from three-point distance. Rush paced the Red Devils with 14 points while John Lo came off the bench to score nine. Hoiberg and Mac Quast added seven points apiece for Hinsdale. Maine South shot 36.7 percent (18-of-49) from the field, including 27.3 percent (6-of-22) from three-point distance. Essam Hawmi led the Hawks with 16 points while Fillip Bulatovic scored 15. Hinsdale Central will clash with Rockford Auburn in tomorrow’s consolation semifinal at 2:00 p.m. Maine South will face Westinghouse tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. |
