2017 GAME EIGHT RECAP: Lincoln Park 67, Marian Catholic 61 HINSDALE, Ill. – Lincoln Park secured the final quarterfinal spot at the 2017 Hinsdale Central Holiday Classic by holding off a late rally to defeat Marian Catholic 67-61 in the final game of day one. Lincoln Park (9-3) built a 25-19 lead at the half before Marian Catholic (7-2) outscored the Lions 20-15 in the third quarter to pull to within a point entering the fourth. Lincoln Park slowly pushed their lead up to double digits at 61-51 with just 1:15 left, but the Spartans mounted a furious rally, ripping off eight straight points in the span of just 30 seconds. Back-to-back three pointers from Tim Jones brought the Spartans to within four. After a Lincoln Park turnover, Ahron Ulis hit a layup with 46 seconds to cut the lead down to two with 41.8 seconds left on the clock. A free throw from Tahir Thompson pushed the Lions’ lead back to three points with 25 seconds left, but Chris White hit a jumper with his foot on the three-point line to cut the deficit down to one with 14 seconds left. Terrence Shannon hit two free throws with 11 seconds left to push the Lions’ lead back to three at 64-61. A Spartans turnover sent Lincoln Park back to the charity stripe where Thompson hit two free throws to help seal the win for Lincoln Park. Terrence Shannon led Lincoln Park and all scorers with 26 points, shooting 9-of-15 from the floor. Thompson added 15 points for the Lions in the win. Lincoln Park shot 45.3 percent (24-of-53) from the floor, including 38.1 percent (8-of-21) from three-point distance. Marian Catholic shot 45.7 percent (21-of-46) from the floor. Ulis led the Spartans with 15 points while Chris White finished with 13 and Alec Dinwiddie scored 10. |
