2017 GAME FOUR RECAP: Maine South 62, Richards 49

HINSDALE, Ill. – Maine South punched its ticket to the quarterfinals of the Hinsdale Central Holiday Classic by scoring a 62-49 opening round win over Richards.    

Maine South (8-2) scored the game’s first 15 points and never looked back, building a 15-3 lead after the first quarter and a 32-17 lead at the half.  The Hawks shot 70 percent (7-of-10) in the first quarter and 63.6 percent (7-of-11) in the second quarter.

Richards (5-4) trailed by as many as 21 points before closing the game on a 12-4 run to make the final score 62-49 in favor of Maine South.

Maine South shot 59.1 percent (26-of-64) from the floor in the contest while also dominating inside. The Hawks won the rebounding battle 35-19 and outscored Richards 42-20 in the paint. Three players reached double figures for the Hawks with Essam Hamwi leading the charge with 18 points. Tommy Gardner finished one rebound shy of a double-double, totaling 15 points, nine rebounds and four assists. Fillip Bulatovic added 10 points while Michael George dished out eight assists for the Hawks.

Richards finished the contest shooting 32.0 percent (16-of-50) from the floor, including 29.4 percent (5-of-17) from beyond the arc. Albert Jones and Paul Zilinskas totaled 14 points apiece for the Bulldogs.

Richards will take on Westinghouse in tomorrow’s consolation game at 11:00 a.m. Maine South will face St. Rita in tomorrow’s quarter final at 5:15 p.m.
