2017 GAME TWO RECAP: Stevenson 48, Homewood-Flossmoor 47

HINSDALE, Ill. – Stevenson erased a 10-point halftime deficit to clip Homewood-Flossmoor 48-47 in the second game of the 2017 Hinsdale Central Holiday Classic.

Homewood-Flossmoor (6-3) built a 26-16 lead at the half after outscoring Stevenson (7-4) 11-4 in the second quarter. Stevenson trailed by 10 with 3:40 left in the third quarter before three-pointers from Jared Pease and Matthew Ambrose pulled the Patriots to within four. Homewood-Flossmoor pushed their lead back to eight with a Sean Jones layup to start the four quarter.

Stevenson used a 10-2 run over the next five minutes to pull even at 41-41 following a pair of free throws from Nick Bonk. After H-F went in front on an Isaac Stanback free throw, the Patriots took their first lead of the half on a Jackson Qualley three-pointer. Free throws helped the Patriots pad their lead to four points before Stanback hit a three just before the buzzer to make the final score 48-47 in favor of Stevenson.

Bonk led the Patriots in the win with 13 points and nine rebounds while Qualley added 12 points. Ambrose finished with 10 points and five boards while Luke Cheing scored seven. Stevenson shot 45.9 percent (17-of-37) from the floor, including 41.2 percent (7-of-17) from downtown.

Homewood-Flossmoor finished the game shooting 39.1 percent (18-of-46), but just 28.6 percent (4-of-14) in the fourth quarter. Stanback led all scorers with a game-high 15 points to go with nine rebounds. Sean Jones added 13 points while Maurion Scott totaled 10.

Homewood-Flossmoor will face Crete-Monee in tomorrow’s consolation game at 9:30 a.m. Stevenson will face DePaul Prep in tomorrow’s quarterfinal contest scheduled for 3:45 p.m.
