2017 GAME 28 RECAP: Stevenson 57, Rockford Auburn 54 HINSDALE, Ill. – Stevenson used a strong second quarter and held off a late rally to score a 57-54 victory over Rockford Auburn in a consolation game of the Hinsdale Central Holiday Tournament. Trailing 15-12 after one quarter, Stevenson (8-6) outscored Rockford Auburn (7-7) 16-5 in the second quarter while building a 28-20 lead. The Patriots pushed their lead up to 15 points early in the third quarter, but Rockford Auburn closed the quarter on a 17-8 run to pull to within six points after three. The Knights pulled even at 45-45 early in the fourth quarter and grabbed a 50-49 lead on a Yahmir Muhammad free throw with four minutes left. Back-to-back three-pointers from Matthew Ambrose put Stevenson back in front by six with two minutes remaining. Rockford Auburn pulled to within one with 26 seconds left, but Jackson Qualley knocked down two free throws to seal the win for the Patriots. Stevenson shot 65.5 percent (19-of-29) from the field, including 54.5 percent (6-of-11) from downtown. Ambrose led the way with 16 points, knocking down four three-pointers in the win. Qualley chipped in with 12 points and seven boards while Nick Bonk totaled eight points and seven rebounds. Rockford Auburn shot 38.0 percent (19-of-50) in the loss. Muhammad led the Knights with 18 points and four assists while James Neal added 15. |
