2016 GAME 27 RECAP: MAINE SOUTH 44, SAINT VIATOR 38
Trailing 9-8 after one quarter, Maine South (7-6) outscored St. Viator (4-9) 14-7 in the second quarter to build a 22-16 lead at the half. The Hawks built a 10-point cushion near the end of the third quarter, but the Lions closed the quarter with a 6-0 run to pull to within four points (33-29) after three. St. Viator came as close as a one-point deficit following a three-pointer from Peter Lambesis, but a Grant Miller layup put the Hawks back up three. The Lions closed to within a point with one minute remaining, but three free throws and a layup helped Maine South earn the six-point victory. Miller paced Maine South and led all scorers in the win, finishing with 18 points and six rebounds. Essam Hamwi added nine for the Hawks. Maine South shot 46.2 percent (12-of-26) from the floor, including 50.0 percent (4-of-8) from downtown. The Hawks hit 16-of-26 free throws in the win while also outrebounding St. Viator 28-20. St. Viator shot 34.2 percent (13-of-38) from the floor, but just 25.0 percent (5-of-20) from downtown. Lambesis came off the bench to lead the Lions in the loss with 13 points. |
