2016 GAME 17 RECAP: GLENBROOK NORTH 47, URBAN PREP ENGLEWOOD 46
Trailing 22-12 with just 2:39 remaining in the opening half, Glenbrook North (7-6) closed the half with an 11-2 run to pull to within a point (24-23) at halftime. The Spartans surged in front with a Nick Sardarov layup to start the third quarter, before the two squads traded buckets and leads for the next five minutes. With the score even at 32-32, the Titans closed the quarter with a 7-2 run to build a five-point cushion after three quarters. Urban Prep surged back in front and took a 45-44 lead in the fourth on a Fred Cleveland II three-pointer. The Spartans went in front for good on a Luke Amen layup with 29 seconds left. The Spartans split a pair of free throws with three seconds left to take a two-point lead. Urban Prep had a chance to tie the game with two seconds remaining after a foul, but the Lions split the free throws giving Glenbrook North the one-point win. Glenbrook North shot 60.6 percent (20-of-33) from the floor in the win. Amen led the way with 12 points while James Karis added 11. Tommy Gertner finished with eight points and nine rebounds while Sardarov came off the bench to score nine. The Spartans won the rebound battle 25-16 and outscored the Lions 36-20 in the paint. Urban Prep (7-4) shot 45.0 percent from the floor, including 42.9 percent (6-of-14) from beyond the arc. Cleveland II and Edward Anderson finished with 11 points apiece to lead Urban Prep in the loss. Glenbrook North will face the winner of the Crete-Monee/Richards contest in a consolation game on Friday (December 30) at 11:00 a.m. Urban Prep will face the loser of the Crete-Monee/Richards game on Friday at 9:30 a.m. |
